It is believed that one of our Hmong Lee Great Grand-Father's named was Houa Wang Lee. He was born in China during the 13th Century which is also known as the Song Dynasty. We have traced our heritage and found that it took 700 years, or seven generations, to move first from China to Vietnam then to Laos then to Thailand and ultimately our end destination of America in 1976.
In May of 1975 after the fall of the Lao Royal Government (LRG), the Hmong people who were associated with the LRG left the country of Laos. They would settle temporarily in Thailand and then eventually the majority of the Hmong people resettled in the United States of America.
In 1984, there was a general meeting among the eighteen Hmong Clans with the purpose of establishing "A new or better way of life for the Hmong in the United States of America". At the meeting, the Hmong 18 Clans Council was formed to represent each Hmong clan surname. With the establishment of the Hmong 18 Clans Council, Maj. Wakai Ly & Rev. Song Sai Lee along with other Hmong Lee Leaders and Hmong Lee families in Minnesota held the first meeting ever among the Hmong Lee families which took place at McDonald Housing Project in St. Paul, Minnesota. Maj. Wakai Ly was elected as the first Hmong Lee Minnesota President. Nhia Vang Lee was elected to succeed Maj. Wakai Ly as the second Hmong Lee President. Rev. Song Sai Lee was elected as the third President. The fourth President was Maj. Touger Lee who then succeeded by Mr. Chayia Lee in 2000. He served the Hmong Lee Families for two consecutive terms until Mr. Wang Meng Lee was elected as Mr. Chayia Lee's successor in 2008 as the sixth President. Currently, Mr. Neng Lee serves as the President who was elected into position as the seventh President in 2012.
Elsewhere in the United States, Hmong Lee families also formed their own organizations as a way to connect and serve its respective communities. After resettling in America for 36 years, Hmong Lee Clan finally formed its unification in May of 2012. A meeting among all Hmong Lee in America took place in Sacramento, California. Dr. Heu Pao P. Lee was elected as the first Hmong Lee President. He formed the Central Committee Members to help organize the Hmong Lee in the United States. The name was chosen as "Hmong Lee USA, Inc." with many representatives elected across America where Hmong Lee families reside.
The Hmong Lee USA First Annual Convention took place on June 28-29, 2013 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Hmong Lee Leaders came from various places in the US with participants as far as France Guiana attending. Among the leaders that came to the convention were Col. Ly Teng from St. Paul, Minnesota, Lt. Col. Boua Fue Lee from Fresno California, and Chue Houa Chao Lee, from French Guiana. There were more than 500 Hmong Lee attendees that came to both days of the convention. Various professional speakers and presenters spoke during the convention on the theme of "Relationship Development".
Hmong Lee USA will continue to grow and strive towards the destination that our great-grand fathers and mothers dreamed of. A dreamed that "one day their grand-children will become self sufficient".
